The not-for-profit Pregnancy Information Center (PIC) has been serving the Fox Valley Area for the past 20+ years. We are a not-for profit that is funded by individuals, churches, grants, organizations and three annual fundraisers. The center has seen an increase in new clients from community referrals, web and the yellow pages. We continually add more educational material in both English and Spanish as we strive to meet the needs of the community.

Vision Statment

The Pregnancy Information Center is committed to supporting the value of each and every human life regardless of physical or mental challenge, from conception to the grave, which will be communicated through all forms of education within and outside the Center.

The History of PIC

The vision for young women who found themselves in a crisis pregnancy situation was organized in the heart and mind of Phil Vitkus. Early in 1985, Phil and a small group of individuals decided to take a step of faith in opening a place where girls and young women could go for help and support. That June, Aid for Women of Fox Valley incorporated and opened in Aurora.

The Center’s centralized location made it accessible for the 400 clients it served the first year. The Center served 1,047 clients in 2002. Our doors remain open to those finding themselves in unplanned pregnancies.

The Center became independent of the Aid for Women organization in 1990, and was renamed Pregnancy Information Center (PIC). That same year, PIC moved to 302 West Downer Place in Aurora.

In the spring of 1991, the decision was made to affiliate with the Christian Action Council, now Care Net, which has very high standards for crisis pregnancy centers. In compliance with these guidelines, a paid staff director was hired (part-time) in June of 1991.

In 1993 the center moved to 205 North Lake Street doubling the size of its facility. Growth brought on a full-time director in July of 1994.

PIC continues to expand services in prevention as well as intervention. Our abstinence team (the A-Team) has been serving our community for 10 years. We provide abstinence programs for schools, youth groups and organizations.

In May 2005 PIC was able to purchase the building at 411 West Galena Boulevard. It more than doubles our size to meet the needs of our clients. We now have a training center where we can offer more group classes. The building has an area for the material assistance and storage for our clients.   Plus we have new administrative offices along with new client rooms.

In 2008, to keep current with the needs of our clients and community, we are:

  • Updating our website to be at the fingertips of our clients 24 hours per day
  • Moving into larger suites within our building to accommodate medical center conversion
  • Expanding Spanish materials and workshops availability
